Monarchs Host No. 4 Charlotte
NORFOLK, VA—The ODU Soccer Monarchs (5-4-1/1-1-1) host the defending Conference USA Champion and fourth ranked Charlotte 49ers Saturday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. Game time for the matchup is 7 p.m. The first 100 fans in attendance will receive an ODU Soccer T-shirt. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for faculty staff, military, youth and senikor citizens. THE SERIES: ODU leads 6-2-3.
Last year, the Monarchs defeated the 49ers in Charlotte, 3-2 in overtime on Fox Sports Soccer channel national game of the week.
ABOUT CHARLOTTE: The 49ers rank fourth nationally by the NSCAA coaches poll and have an NCAA RPI of three. They are led in scoring by junior forward Kyle Parker who has six goals, seven assists for 19 total points which rank him 13th nationally. Junior midfielder Dominic Bonilla has a team best eight assists along with three goals for 19 points. As a team, Charlotte ranks second nationally in scoring offense with 30 goals in 11 matches thus far, while allowing only 10. Junior goalkeeper Austin Pack has a 0.89 goals against average with 33 saves.
ABOUT THE MONARCHS: The Monarchs are led in scoring by junior Ryan Condotta with two goals, one assist for five total points and graduate student Christian Schroeer with one goal, a team best three assists for five total points. Sophomore Jesse Miralrio, who scored a goal in the Monarchs 2-1 win over FIU also has two goals thus far this season. The Monarchs sophomore goalkeeper Alex Tiesenhausen leads C-USA in saves with 50 and has a 0.86 goals against average.
DID YOU KNOW: In the latest NSCAA Coaches top 25 six ODU opponents are listed. They include Charlotte (No. 4), New Mexico (No. 9), Virginia (No. 10), North Carolina (No. 15), UNC Wilmington (No. 23) and South Florida (No. 24).
NO GOAL FOR YOU! Four C-USA teams boast a goals-against average below 1.00 led by Kentucky at 0.40 which ranks third nationally, allowing only five goals thus far. New Mexico is next at 0.57, followed by ODU at 0.86 and Charlotte at 0.88.
ODU ranks 16th nationally in save percentage at .850, and goalkeeper Alex Tiesenhausen ranks 19th nationally at .847 in the category.
