Monarchs sweep C-USA weekly honors
IRVING, Texas – The Old Dominion men’s soccer program swept this week’s Conference Player of the week honors as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Sebastian Hauret claimed the offensive honors while Jimmy Filerman took the defensive award, each earning their career first player of the week laurels. Their efforts along with the rest of the soccer Monarchs helped the team claim the Runner-up title for the 41st annual ODU Soccer Classic.
Sebastian Hauret claimed the C-USA Offensive Player of the week after recording the game-winning goal against 18thranked Radford on Sunday, Sept. 11. The redshirt-freshman from Paris, France also assisted on the lone goal for Old Dominion on Friday, Sept. 9 in a 3-1 loss to #23 Vermont.
Hauret earned a spot on the 41st annual ODU Soccer Classic All-Tournament team for his performance this weekend, as well as picking up his second ‘Man of the Match’ honor of the season. He is the second Monarch this season to earn offensive player of the week honors as Niko Klosterhalfen receive the award the first week of the season.
Earning the Monarch’s first C-USA Defensive Player of the Week laurels of the 2016 season is Jimmy Filerman. The redshirt-freshman from Vienna, Virginia assisted on the game-winning goal Sunday, Sept. 11, against #18 Radford.
Filerman helped the ODU defense shutout the 18th ranked Highlanders, doling them their first loss of the season. He also contributed to seven team blocks on the weekend including six against #23 Vermont, earning a spot on the 41stannual ODU Soccer Classic All-Tournament team.
Old Dominion returns to action when they host #9 Charlotte on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m., in their conference opener at the ODU Soccer Complex. The game marks an end of the six-game home stand that opened up the Monarchs 2016 season. Old Dominion hits the road next week for its first road game of the season at VCU on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
