MONMOUTH PLAYS FDU TO SCORELESS DRAW
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University men’s soccer team played Garden State Northeast Conference rival Fairleigh Dickinson to a scoreless draw, Friday night on The Great Lawn. With the tie, the Hawks move to 5-3-2 (0-1-1 NEC), and stay unbeaten against the Knights in the last eight seasons (9-0-2). The Knights move to 4-4-2 (1-0-1 NEC).
Hawks senior goalkeeper Alex Blackburn (Natick, Mass./Natick) made three saves in the shutout, while counterpart Jacob Lissek made seven saves. For the game, the Knights took a slight 12-11 edge in shots, while Monmouth took eight corner kicks to FDU’s four. The Hawks took a 9-5 edge in shots in regulation, before the Knights took a 6-0 edge in the first overtime. Monmouth took a 2-1 advantage in shots in the second overtime session.
The Hawks return to NEC action Sunday, when they play host to Bryant. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on The Great Lawn.
