NC State women opt out of 2020 season
The NC State women's soccer team won't compete in the fall season, the program announced on Monday.
Per a statement released on its social media accounts:
"Due to a deplete roster, the combination of injuries and not all members of its roster returning to Raleigh this semester, NC State women's soccer will not compete this fall in the best interest of the safety of its student-athletes. NC State notified the ACC of its decision on Friday. The squad will continue to train and put its focus on 2021, and spring competition should that be an option."
According to head coach Tim Santoro, six international players were unavailable for 2020 due to visa issues, one of many factors that lead to the decision.
“The fact that we’re still together and training, that perspective has made them realize that it could be worse. There are people in the world right now that are going through worse, so I give my girls credit for understanding that." - @PackWSOCoach pic.twitter.com/Us4o9d8tU3
