NJIT Remains Undefeated with 2-0 Win at FAU
BOCA RATON, FL – Senior Mamadou Guirassy tied the NJIT DI career goals record after scoring the Highlanders two goals in their 2-0 win at Florida Atlantic on Sunday, staying undefeated in 2017.
NJIT (3-0-1) keeps its win streak alive and remains the lone team in the ASUN undefeated.
Guirassy's two goals gives the senior forward five goals in four games this season and 15 for his career which ties the NJIT DI career goals record with former teammate Joshua Mercer ('15).
NJIT keeper Victor Pujades recorded another shutout, bringing his career total to 10. Pujades broke the DI single season record last season tallying seven and has accumulated three shutouts in four matches.
Daniel Ragoo made five saves for the Owls.
FAU (0-3) edged the Highlanders in shots, outshooting their opponent 14-10, but NJIT posted more shots on goal with seven to the Owls four.
The first half was even, with the halftime score 0-0.
The Highlanders struck in the 71st minute when Guirassy received a pass from freshman Carlos Garcia from the end line, playing the ball off his chest and volleying the ball into upper left corner of the goal.
With five seconds left in regulation, Guirassy scored again, his second consecutive game with two goals, off a pass from senior Danny Cordeiro to seal the win for NJIT.
NJIT will head back north to take on LIU Brooklyn on September 6 for a 6pm game in Brooklyn, NY.
