No. 10 Warhawks Win at St. Kate's 4-0
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Mackenzie Serbousek (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Prairie) scored two second half goals to lead the No. 10 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over St. Catherine's Saturday afternoon in St. Paul. The Warhawks move to 3-0-1 this season while the Wildcats fall to 0-3.
UW-W set forth on an early attack but a shot by Adria Schueler (Wales, Wis./Mukwonago) thirty seconds into the match sailed wide.
The Wildcats countered with a shot on goal in the third minute, but Warhawk keeper Sara Klimisch(Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail High School and Academy) was there to make the save.
Over the course of the next twenty-two minutes, it was all UW-Whitewater. The Warhawks tallied five unanswered shots, scoring on the fifth. Karina Rosales (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) rose up and headed in a corner kick off the foot of Alyssa Lennon (Oshkosh, Wis./Oshkosh West) for the Warhawks' first goal.
The teams traded shots over the final 19 minutes of the first half but headed into halftime with a score of 1-0 in favor of the Warhawks.
Four minutes into the second half, Ellie Wahlberg and Anna Boyd (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) set up Serbousek for her first goal of the game to give the Warhawks a 2-0 advantage.
Six minutes later Maria Salm (Random Lake, Wis./Grafton) sent a corner into the box that Serbousek headed into the net for a 3-0 lead.
St. Catherine had an opportunity to score in the 59th minute, but a shot by Madelyn Conners hit the crossbar and kept the Wildcats off the board.
The Warhawks earned a free kick after a foul by St. Kate's in the 73rd minute. Sara Severson (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) sent the ball toward the net and Morgan Beaty (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) headed it into the goal for her first tally of the season, giving the Warhawks a 4-0 lead.
Klimisch earned the victory making one save in 63 minutes before giving way to Nina Yonan (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) who finished the shutout.
UW-W outshot St. Kate's 17-9 in the match and earned six corner kicks to the Wildcats' 1.
Up next for the Warhawks is a trip to Mequon, Wisconsin on Wednesday, September 13 for a match against Concordia at 4 p.m.
