No. 10 Warhawks Win Third Straight
A header goal by Karina Rosales (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) in the 32nd minute was the difference in a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer 1-0 win over Carthage Sunday at Fiskum Field in Whitewater. The win is the third in a row for the Warhawks who improve to 4-1 this season. Carthage falls to 2-2.
The Lady Reds put Warhawk goalkeeper Sara Klimisch(Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail High School and Academy) to the test early. In the 8th minute forward Corinne Brennan fired a shot on goal but Klimisch made the stop.
Three and a half minutes later Warhawk forward Kaci Schonert (Racine, Wis./Horlick) sent a shot towards the goal but was denied by the post.
Jordan Jackson (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) entered the game in the 29th minute and two minutes later her presence was felt. She sent a cross into the box that Rosales headed in for a goal, her second of the season.
Klimisch was again tested in the 36th minute but made the stop and the Warhawks entered halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The Warhawks had several opportunities to increase their lead to 2-0 in the second half, but Carthage goalkeeper Emily Furmanek kept turning them away.
With under 15 minutes to go, Carthage made one last push for a goal, but Klimisch made yet another save en route to her third win, and second shutout, of the season.
UW-W fired 19 shots in the match to five by Carthage. Klimisch totaled four saves.
Next up for the Warhawks will be Luther College on Wednesday, September 14 at Fiskum Field. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m.
