No. 25 Warhawks Top Manchester 5-0
CHICAGO, Ill. - Behind two goals from junior transfer Peter Raymonds (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East), the No. 25 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team captured a 5-0 victory over Manchester University (Ind.) Saturday in Chicago, Illinois to move to 1-1 this season.
The Warhawk offense pelted the Spartans early, firing seven shots in the first 20 minutes of the match. The seventh shot resulted in a goal by Kevin Mesich (West Allis, Wis./West Allis Hale) to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead. Dieuvit Emmanuel Mbavumoja (Kisangani, Congo/Groupe Scolaire Sainte Marie-Inst. Chololo) earned an assist on the play.
Less than four minutes later Peter Raymonds (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) notched his first goal of the season, unassisted. He tallied his second score six minutes later to give the Warhawks a 3-0 advantage. Brad Ludwig (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) tallied an assist on Raymonds' second goal.
Adam Demaster (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) gave the Warhawks a 4-0 lead with his first collegiate goal less than ten minutes before halftime.
Senior captain Chris Lucatorto (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) played the first 45 minutes, making two saves, before giving way to Toney Anderson (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) in the second half.
After three quick shots by Manchester to start the second half, the Warhawks countered with a goal to make it 5-0. Freshman midfielder Steven Wright (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) connected with freshman forward Jackson Ranck (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) on the score.
Like Lucatorto, Anderson tallied two saves in the match.
The Warhawks return to the field Wednesday for their first home contest. UW-W will play host to Olivet College at 4 p.m. at Fiskum Field.
