ODU Swats Yellow Jackets for Second Straight Shutout
October 10, 2011
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican women''s soccer team welcomed former AMC foe Cedarville to Panther Field on Friday evening and came away with its second consecutive 3-0 non-conference victory.
With its second shutout in three days, ODU improves to 4-6-2 on the year and 3-3-2 at home, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-5-2- overall and 1-2-1 on the road.
For the fourth time this season and second straight game, the Panthers scored within the first six minutes of the contest, courtesy of sophomore Megan Augusta''s (Lyndhurst, OH) third goal this season at the 4:17 mark. Augusta carried the ball across from the wing to the top of the box and struck the eventual game-winner from 14 yards deep to the left side of the goal.
Play was quite even up to intermission with ODU holding a slim 5-4 edge on shots, but the Panthers found their offensive niche midway through the second with a pair of scores in a four minute stretch. The first score came at the foot of leading scorer Jennifer Holton (Jr./Johnstown, OH) in the 63rd minute as she carried the ball ahead about 25 yards and placed the ball off the far right post from the short left wing, 15 yards away.
Kristyn Kajganich (North Royalton, OH) became the fourth freshmen to record their first collegiate score this season as she added an insurance goal with 24:32 left to play on a low blast from a distance of 22 yards in the deep left wing to the near side goal. ODU finished the half with a 9-1 margin on shots, including 4-1 on target, and held a 5-0 advantage on corners.
Freshman Laura Clark (Lapeer, MI) picked up her third shutout in goal, turning aside three shots to improve to 4-5-2 this year.
With the non-conference slate complete, the Panthers resume GLIAC play at 2 p.m. next Thursday, Oct. 13 with a visit to South Division leader, Tiffin.
