Panthers Upset By Jaguars, 1-0
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Milwaukee men's soccer team dominated the scoresheet but came up short in the most important column in falling to IUPUI, 1-0, Saturday night at Carroll Stadium.
The Panthers (6-4-2, 2-1-1 Horizon League) outshot the Jaguars (3-7-2, 3-2-0 Horizon League) by a total of 23-to-10 on the night, but a 69th minute goal by Alan Aguilar handed Milwaukee its first league loss of the season and made the ride back to Wisconsin much longer.
Freddy Lorenzen finished with four saves on the evening. IUPUI goalkeeper Quinn McCallion came up big time and time again, finishing with a season-high eight saves to send the Panthers to the tough-luck loss.
Following a lengthy lightning delay less than two minutes into the night, the teams returned to the field and Milwaukee went on the attack. Shot after shot was created in the first 45 minutes, eventually firing off nine before the halftime horn.
It was no different in the second half, a period in which MKE outshot the Jaguars by a doubled-up total of 14-to-7. The IUPUI goal came against the run of play, with a ball getting picked off in back, served in front of goal and a solid header from Aguilar finding the back of the net at the 68:45 mark.
Suad Suljic's free kick created some trouble in the 56th minute, presenting MKE with a corner kick as well. That was not to be, with Vuk Latinovich whizzing the header past the right post on the next play.
Alex Sykes gave it a go in the 67th minute, but his volley from the left wing ended up in the side netting, missing frame by just a few feet.
The team had a great chance in the 72nd as well, with a shot in traffic following a corner kick played in finding the foot of Jackson Dryden, unfortunately right at McCallion, the only spot that wouldn't get by.
Milwaukee created eight more chances the final 17 minutes, but never could find the equalizer on the night.
Up next, the Panthers are off for a week, returning to the road next Saturday to take on UIC in Chicago. Game time against the Flames is set for 1 p.m.
