Panthers Win Big, Top Cavaliers 4-1
NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Led by four different Panthers, the Ohio Dominican women's soccer team improved to an overall record of 6-4-2 and 3-3-1 in the GLIAC with a decisive 4-1 victory over conference opponent Walsh on Friday evening.
Walsh opened the scoring in the 20th minute of the game after Kristen Conti passed a ball up the center of the field to Jessie Gearhart, who broke away from the ODU defense, allowing the Cavaliers to grab the 1-0 lead.
10 minutes later, freshman Kelly Johnson (Berea, Ohio) evened the score 1-1 after taking a Walsh defender one-on-one in the box and zipped the goal to the right top corner of the net. It was her second goal of the season.
After the break, ODU scored three more times, while dominating both ends of the field.
In the 52nd minute, sophomore Sydney Simpson (Avon, Ohio) took a pass from sophomore Lauren Pratt (West Chester, Ohio) and extended the Panther lead to 2-1 after heading the ball into the right side of the net.
At the 76:73 mark, freshman Madison Baldwin (Zanesville, Ohio) dribbled into the center and took a shot to the lower right corner for her third goal of the campaign.
Pratt added the final tally for the Panthers in the 84th minute after taking control off a failed clear and connected with the back of the net.
Sophomore Felicia Cuthbert (Marysville, Ohio) picked up her first career win in the net, facing just two shots on goal and making one stop.
Ohio Dominican controlled the offense, outshooting the Cavaliers 17-7 and holding a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
"Tonight was a great team win," said head coach Jonathan Meade. "Everyone did their part and we did well in putting the ball in the back of the net."
The Panthers will return to Canton on Sunday for a conference match against Malone at 3:30 p.m.
