Pepperdine Falls at San Francisco, 2-0
MALIBU, Calif. – Without several of the squad’s top attacking players available, the Pepperdine women’s soccer team went down to a 2-0 defeat at San Francisco on Friday night in West Coast Conference play.
The Waves dropped to 9-6-2 overall, 4-3-0 in the WCC, and their hopes of an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament may have taken a hit. The Dons improved to 6-8-3, 1-4-1.
Junior forward Lynn Williams (Fresno, Calif./Bullard HS), the WCC’s leading goal-scorer with 11, missed her second straight game. Freshman forward Kristen Rodriguez (Inglewood, Calif./Notre Dame Academy), third on the team with nine points, also did not play due to injury. The Waves have been without junior forward Amanda LeCave (Windsor, Calif./Windsor HS), a 10-goal scorer from a season ago, the entire year.
USF outshot Pepperdine, 16-13. It was scoreless at halftime, but the Dons’ Mackenzie Krieser kicked one in from close range following a corner kick in the 52nd minute, and then Alex Alugas added to the total in the 74th minute.
Junior forward Ally Holtz (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School), who was named the WCC’s Player of the Week on Monday, attempted a team-high five shots and put two on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Seabert (Riverside, Calif./Woodcrest Christian HS) collected six saves. She became the second Wave ever to collect at least 100 saves in a season tonight and now has 105. With two games left in the regular season, she’s within striking distance of the school record (119), set by Anna Picarelli in 2005.
The Dons defeated the Waves for the first time since 2006.
Pepperdine continues its Bay Area road trip at #9 Santa Clara on Sunday (Nov. 3) at 1 p.m.
PEPP 0-0---0
USF 0-2---2
Goals: Mackenzie Frieser (Amanda Whittle), USF, 51:52; Alex Alugas, USF, 73:22.
