Premier scorer in country transfers to SCU
December 31, 2011
On her way to becoming the greatest goal-scorer in Nebraska Cornhusker history, senior-to-be Morgan Marlborough has decided to transfer to Santa Clara for the 2013 season.
Marlborough will be forced to sit out the 2012 campaign before providing the Broncos with scoring prowess that cannot be understated.
Caroline Stanley
Over three years, Marlborough has been one of the top scorers in the country, racking up 59 goals on her way to winning back-to-back Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year as well as All America honors. Marlborough, a 6-foot striker, was just 11 goals away from setting Nebraska's all-time mark for career goals scored. That's about a half a season's work for her considering she notched 20 to go with six assists this past year, but the former KCFC standout had other goals in mind.
"I wanted to develop individually and play professionally for the U.S. teams," she told the San Jose Mercury News. "It was time for me to go."
The Cornhuskers failed to reach the NCAA Tournament during Marlborough's tenure something she'll have a great chance of experiencing for the first time when she finally suits up for the Broncos.
HEADING WEST
Marlborough isn't the only player heading west, her close friend and former Top 100 prospect Caroline Stanley has transferred from Missouri to USC following her freshman season.
A highly rated goalkeeper who has spent a good deal of time in U.S. National Team camps, Stanley appeared in just four games this season while playing behind McKenzie Sauerwein.
"Things just didn’t work out. It's unfortunate because I was so close to the girls on the team but it just wasn't my fit," said Stanley, also a KCFC product. "I'm just blessed to get this second chance and an amazing opportunity at USC."
