Rangers Take Down Blue Jays
MADISON, N.J. (August 31, 2013) – The Rangers clinched second place in the 30th Annual Men's Soccer Fall Festival this evening with a 3-1 victory over Johns Hopkins (0-1-1). The Rangers improve to 1-1 on the season thanks to a pair of second half goals.
Freshman Dylan Hammer (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) scored his first goal of his career which proved to be the game-winner just before the first half ended. Fellow freshman Joseph Cereste (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) put the game out of reach for the Rangers with his first career goal in the 47th minute.
Senior Eduardo Moran (Mexicali, Mexico/El Cajon) got the Rangers started with his second career goal just 3:01 into the contest. Classmate Ricardo Castro (Mexicali, Mexico/Vincent Memorial) served a perfect ball off a corner that Moran was able head into the back of the net.
The Blue Jays knotted the game at one just 3:16 later on virtually the same play. Nigel Joseph sent a ball off a corner that Kotaro Misuhashi was able to elevate and put into the back of the net. Hammer's game-winner came with just 2:49 left in the first half on a pass from Kevin Baroz (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys).
Senior Matthew Gragnano (Hazlet, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) helped put the game away for the Rangers assisting on Cereste's goal just 1:54 into the second half.
The Rangers defense was impermeable in the second half of play, allowing only three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Michael Reyes (Delran, N.J./Delran) made six saves to earn his first victory of the season.
Drew will be back in action this weekend when they play in the Scarlet Raider Classic hosted by Rutgers-Newark this weekend. The Rangers open up with DeSales, at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday in Newark, N.J.
