Raymonds Records Hat Trick in Warhawk Win
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Peter Raymonds (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East)' recorded at hat trick for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team in a 4-1 victory over Augsburg University in Minneapolis Friday night. The No. 25 Warhawks, winners of three straight, improve to 3-1 and hand the Auggies their first loss of the season to fall to 3-1.
The Warhawks wasted little time getting on to the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead less than ten minutes into the match. Raymonds took the ball down the left side and shot it across the face of the goal into the right half of the net for his fourth goal of the season.
The Auggies countered with a shot on goal in the 11th minute, but Warhawk keeper Chris Lucatorto (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) was there to make the save.
Raymonds tallied his second goal of the match at 21:23 when he stole the ball from an Auggie defender about 30 yards from the goal, made a move to the middle of the field and pushed the ball past the keeper for a 2-0 Warhawk lead.
Alex Whiteman (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) and Taylor Ortiz (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) each had an opportunity to extend the Warhawk lead to three before halftime, but both shots were saved by the Auggie goalkeeper.
A foul on Augsburg in the 66th minute resulted in a penalty kick and Raymonds blasted it past the keeper to finish off his hat trick.
Twenty-six seconds later a miscue by the Auggie defense resulted in an own goal and a 4-0 UW-Whitewater lead.
With less than 15 minutes to play, the Auggies connected on some nifty passing to tally their lone goal of the match.
Raymonds is the first Warhawk men's soccer player to record a hat trick since Julius Sekyi did it in a 6-1 victory over Concordia-Minnesota in 2007.
Lucatorto finished the match with a season-high four saves to improve to 3-1 as the starter.
UW-W returns to the field on Sunday when they travel to Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota for a 1 p.m. match.
