Razorbacks Extend Record SEC Win Streak
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – With three home games left on its schedule, Arkansas earned another win in conference play to stay undefeated at Razorback Field with a 2-1 win over Georgia in front of the fifth-largest crowd in program history.
A crowd of 1,701 fans watched the Razorbacks improve to 12-1-0 on the season and extend their conference mark to 5-0-0. Arkansas’ fifth-straight victory over an SEC opponent is their longest win streak in the league. The previous record – three straight wins in the SEC set on Oct. 2012 – was broken on Sept. 25 during the Razorbacks’ 2-1 win against Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi.
With both teams trading shots throughout a scoreless first half, Arkansas would take control of the game in a three-minute span during the second half.
Senior midfielder Claire Kelley scored in the 48th minute, assisted by freshman forward Stefani Doyle to put the Razorbacks on the board 1-0. About three minutes later, a Georgia own goal would lift Arkansas to 2-0 and put the game out of reach for the Bulldogs (3-8-1, 0-5-0).
“That’s a good performance. As always, we’ll watch video as there’s things to work on and some areas we can grow in confidence,” head coach Colby Hale said. “I thought in moments we were fantastic across the park. We need to continue to clean some things up. I’m always happy with a win. We’ll enjoy this and get back to work.”
Kelley now has three goals this year along with 14 points, enough for second place on the team. Senior goalkeeper Cameron Carter also improved to 12-1 and is only two wins away from equaling her 14-8 mark set during her freshman year.
With the win, Arkansas remained tied at first place with South Carolina (11-0-1, 5-0-0) in SEC standings.
Arkansas notched a 23-12 edge in shots on the match with seven on goal, and held a 7-3 advantage over Ole Miss in corners.
The Razorbacks will host the Vanderbilt Commodores on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. in a nationally televised match on the SEC Network.
