Roberts Wesleyan
BUFFALO, NY—Francisco Cardillo (Tonawanda/St. Thomas Aquinas (ON)) netted the game-winning goal in the 66th minute to lift Buffalo State (2-2-1) to a 2-1 victory over visiting Roberts Wesleyan (0-2-1) in a non-conference game today at Coyer Field.
Buffalo State withstood some early pressure by the Redhawks and then took control for the majority of the first half. Keegan Lezama (Milton, ON/Bishop Reding) opened the scoring for the Bengals, slipping a shot inside the left post off of a feed from Dylan Ross(Staten Island/St. Peter's Boys) in the closing minutes of the opening half.
After Roberts Wesleyan evened the score off a corner kick in the 57th minute, the Bengals settled play again. Less than 10 minutes later, Cardillo netted what proved to be the game-winner with an assist from C.J. Scirto (Lockport/St. Joe's). Scirto sent a long ball on goal, and Cardillo deposited the rebound after the ball slipped through the goalkeeper's hands.
Ian Huntoon (Stamford, CT/West Hill) made six saves in the win, as the Redhawks held a 15-13 edge in shots.
Buffalo State will return to action on Saturday at Daemen (played at Amherst High School) at 4 p.m.
