Scots Have Their Way With Panthers
LaGRANGE, Ga -- Four different players scored a goal as the Covenant Scots continued their winning ways on Saturday afternoon by defeating the LaGrange College Panthers 4-0. The win is Covenant’s third straight and puts the Scots at 5-6-2 for the season and 2-0 in GSAC play. The Panthers fall to 2-10 and 0-3 in conference action.
Johnny Frame got the scoring going for the Scots early on as he found the back of the net in the 10th minute. Frame’s first goal of the season came off a LaGrange turnover and the senior put his shot past LaGrange keeper Donnie Palmer to put Covenant up 1-0.
The Scots added to their lead in the 33rd minute. Ian Meredith had his shot saved by Palmer, but the ball rebounded back to Tyler Morrison who then converted on the opportunity and netted his fourth score of the year. Covenant would add one more goal before halftime when Meredith scored his third goal of the year, off an assist from Hudson Brock, to make it 3-0 Scots.
Covenant extended its margin to 4-0 in the 73rd minute of the second period when David Huertas headed the ball through the net, his first goal of the year, off a corner kick from Garrison Dale.
The Scots dominated their side of the field for the better part of the match. Covenant outshot LaGrange 24-7 on the afternoon with an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal. The lone Panthers shot on goal was saved by Scots keeper John Eger in the 52nd minute.
