SPU Shuts Out SFU
Burnaby, B.C. – The No.5 ranked (in the West Regional) Seattle Pacific University Falcons shutout the Simon Fraser University Clan women’s soccer team by a score of 2-0 on Saturday night at Fox Field in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action. SFU falls to 1-3 (0-2 GNAC). SPU improves to 5-1 (2-0 GNAC) on the season.
Chances to score were limited in the first half as Falcons forward Megan Lindsey had an opportunity to break the scoreless tie but Clan goalkeeper Amelia Ng dove to her left to make the save. Anna Brancati came inches short of giving SFU a lead going into halftime but put the ball over the net.
Lindsey cashed in on her next chance to score early in the second half when she put a ball home past Ng to make it 1-0. Brittany Langdon added to the lead in 75th minute off a strike inside the box. Emma Cruickshank almost got SFU on the board as she lofted a ball just over goalkeeper Natalie Harold.
SPU outshot SFU 15-to-6. Ng made seven saves in the loss while Harold made two to earn the win and shutout.
Next up, SFU takes on MSU-Billings on September 22 in Billings, Montana. The game is scheduled to start at 4pm.
