St. Cloud State soccer names team captains
St. Cloud State University soccer coach Gretta Arvesen has announced that junior midfielder Sarah Benhart(Crystal Lake, Ill./Central H.S.) and senior midfielder Alyson Fisher (Kimberly, Wisc./H.S.) have been selected as team captains for the upcoming 2016 season.
"We are excited to announce our team captains for the 2016 season," Arvesen said. "Sarah Benhart and Alyson Fisher have an indisputable passion, heart and care for our program. Each are committed to leading with integrity and have earned the respect of their teammates and our staff. These young women are outstanding teammates and we believe their combined leadership qualities will continue to build our team's culture of success."
An English major with a community development and planning minor, Benhart is a 2014 graduate of Crystal Lake (Ill.) Central High School. A member of the 2015 NSIC All-Academic team, Benhart has been a two-year starter for the Huskies at the midfielder position. Last year, Benhart scored one goal, one assist and three points for the Huskies.
An athletic training major, Fisher is a 2012 graduate of Kimberly (Wisc.) High School. Fisher joined the Huskies' roster in 2015 after transferring from Marian University. In her first season with the Huskies, Fisher carded three goals, one assist and seven points in 2015. She was named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 2, 2015.
The Huskies are scheduled to open their 2016 regular season with a home date on Sept. 13 against NSIC rival Minnesota Duluth.
All home games in 2016 will be played on the pitch at Husky Stadium, which is located on the SCSU campus along the scenic banks of the Mississippi River.
Tickets for all home games may be purchased at the gate on game days throughout the 2016 season. SCSU students with a valid SCSU student ID card will be admitted FREE to all regular season home games in 2016.
