St. Cloud State Soccer Tips Mary, 3-2
Despite giving up two late second half goals, the Huskies kept battling and eventually sent the game to OT and got the victory. Saturday afternoon's match vs. the University of Mary Marauders was played in front of 201 spectators at Husky Stadium. SCSU honored it's three seniors prior to the game. The 2011 Husky seniors are Kelsey Helgeson, Sarah Clapp and Chelsey Permenter.
SCSU opened up the scoring when Permenter scored unassisted at the 20:17 mark of the first half. It was the first goal of the season for Permenter and the seventh of her career.
In the 77th minute of the match the scoring would start to open up. The Marauders knotted things up at 1-1 at the 77:44 mark on an unassisted goal by Alex Bachman-Williams. The University of Mary took the lead at the 84:35 mark on Bachman-Williams second consecutive unassisted goal, making it 2-1 in favor of the Marauders.
With just 1:16 left in regulation, junior Mary Morhardt was able to beat U-Mary goalkeeper Ashley Akers to tie the match at 2-2 and send it into overtime. Laura Moline had the assist on the goal by Morhardt.
At the 96:39 mark of the match the game winning goal went off two Marauders players and into their own net to give the Huskies the 3-2 NSIC victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kenzie Hanzlik had two saves on the game. Akers had three for the Marauders. Final shot count was 9-5 in favor of the Huskies.
SCSU (8-7-1, 5-5-1 NSIC) will travel next Saturday (10/29) to take on Wayne State in a game set for 11:00 am. On Sunday (10/30) they will be at Augustana in a match scheduled for 1:00 pm.
