The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers (4-0-2) increased their unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-0 victory over the Saint Joseph's Hawks (1-5), Wednesday evening at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 5.
Senior Harry Odell scored the game-winner in the fifth minute. Junior Leo Folla added an insurance goal in the 65th minute for the Terriers, who have won their 10th straight game at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 5.
Odell got the offense started just minutes into the match. After a Saint Joseph's foul, the senior midfielder beat SJU goalkeeper Bobby Edwards on a free kick from 25-yards out.
The Terriers created a flurry of chances in the 22nd minute. Senior midfielder John Makaya fired a pair of shots that were blocked by the Hawks' defense. Junior Fabian Suele then gathered the rebound and sent a shot high of the goal.
SFBK came back in the 32nd minute as junior forward Sal Barone made a move and fired wide of the net.
The Terriers created a chance off a corner kick in the 44th minute. Junior Paul Galimi had his header stopped by Edwards after a perfect cross by sophomore Federico Curbelo.
St. Francis Brooklyn's defense did a good job holding the Saint Joseph's offense in check and did not allow a shot on goal in the first half.
The Hawks almost tied the match in the 48th minute. Sam Irvin's corner kick was headed on net by Bliss Harris but the chance was denied by red-shirt senior goalkeeper Jack Binks.
The Terriers came back with a pair of chances in the 61st minute. Both sophomore defender Dominick Falanga and senior midfielder Vincent Bezecourt were denied by Edwards.
SFBK came close to making it 2-0 when Bezecourt sent a corner kick to Folla, whose shot was blocked forcing another corner. The duo, however, converted on the next try as Folla received the Bezecourt corner and beat Edwards.
Saint Joseph's had a chance to make it a one goal game in the 78th minute but Binks made a save on Eric Jordan's opportunity.
Binks kept the shutout intact in the 79th and 83rd minutes making saves on Emmanuel Temeh and Mike Akinkoye.
Binks made five saves and recorded his fourth shutout of the season in the victory.
The Terriers return to action on Sunday, when they travel to our nation's capital to play Howard. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.
