Stony Brook, N.Y. - Freshman Jorge Torres (Miami, Fla.) and junior Keith McKenna (Great River, N.Y.) tallied goals on the night, but the Stony Brook men's soccer team was unable to fully capitalize on a season-high 19 shots as the #Seawolves played Binghamton to a 2-2 draw Wednesday night at LaValle Stadium.

The tie is Stony Brook's first of the year and brings the team's record to 5-6-1 overall and 1-1-1 in America East. The #Seawolves have four points and sit in a three-way tie for third place in the conference standings with Albany and Binghamton, which moved to 3-7-3 overall and 1-1-1 in the league.

Head Coach Ryan Anatol's Reaction

"I thought we struggled a bit in the first half, dealing with their pressure. I thought we came out and did a much better job in the second half. We really carried the game and took the game to them. I thought we let up some soft goals, and to get three points, you can't allow goals like that."


Goal Recaps

• In the 19th minute, senior Will Casey (Setauket, N.Y.) played the ball into the box. Trying to prevent a run on him, Bearcats goalkeeper Stefan Frantellizzi slid and kicked the ball out, but it ended up on the foot of Torres, who softly lofted the ball from 35 yards out over the scrambling defenders at the top of the net in for the score.
• In the 38th minute, Binghamton's Ben Nicholson played a ball from midfield that dropped in front of Steven Celeste while inside the box. Celeste dribbled once and then kicked it past the right side of #Seawolves senior keeper Carlos Villa (Caracas, Venezuela).
• In the 49th minute, Nicholson had the corner kick on the near side, and his ball was headed in by Robbie Hughes.
• In the 52nd minute, sophomore Martin Giordano was on the near side and crossed the ball into the box. McKenna made a run on the ball in front of the net and one-timed the kick past the keeper's left point blank.

Strong Chance

• In the 84th minute, freshman Favio Sbarra (Caracas, Venezuela) launched a missle shot from 40 yards away that clanged off the crossbar, narrowly missing giving Stony Brook the lead.

The Numbers Game

• Stony Brook outshot Binghamton 19-18 overall, but the Bearcats had more on goal, 10-8.
• The 19 shots and eight shots on goal matched a season high for Stony Brook, which did the same last match at New Hampshire.
• Stony Brook had seven corners to Binghamton's four.
• Torres' goal was his first collegiate tally.
• McKenna has now scored a goal in three straight matches.
• Giordano now has a team-leading four assists.
• Villa made eight saves and is now 2-2-1 on the season in net.
