TDS Men’s Division I Top 25: Aug. 31
The Division I men’s soccer season kicked off on Friday. Every team in the TopDrawerSoccer Top 25 Ranking was in action over the weekend. A few upsets knocked some teams down the list while a couple of programs jumped onto the list.
Virginia holds onto the top spot following a 1-0 win over Charlotte on Saturday. Nicko Corriveau scored the lone goal while Jeff Caldwell earned the shutout in net. The Cavaliers return to action on Friday with a game against Tulsa.
UCLA also picked up a 1-0 win on Saturday(m). The Bruins defeated New Mexico off of freshman defender Malcolm Jones’ audacious tally. Jones came off the bench and left his mark on his debut in Westwood. No. 2 UCLA hits the road this week for games against Maryland and Georgetown.
Creighton moves up to No. 3 following a 1-0 win over Michigan on Friday and 4-0 win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Sunday. Creighton fans are already in midseason form with 4,838 packing into Morrison Stadium for the opener.
Georgetown drops to No. 4 after 0-0 draw vs. FGCU on Friday. The Hoyas were scheduled to play South Florida on Sunday, but inclement weather pushed that contest back to Monday.
North Carolina rounds out the top five following a 1-0 win over FIU and a 3-0 win vs. Santa Clara. The Tar Heels are staying busy with games against William & Mary and Tulsa this week.
