Temple Ties La Salle 2-2
PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer tied La Salle 2-2 on Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium in both team's first Philadelphia Soccer Six match. Temple's record moves to 1-3-1 while La Salle's record improves to 0-3-1.
La Salle led at halftime 2-0 with two goals in the first 14 minutes of the game. Just 38 seconds into the game Matt Robinson scored his first goal of the season in the box off a cross from the right side of the field. Joe Farrell scored in the 14th minute with a shot that just went off the gloves of goalkeeper Dan Scheck.
The Owls rallied in the second half where they outshot the Explorers 14-5. Miguel Polley scored the first goal of his collegiate career in the 48th minute. Chas Wilson passed the pall from the middle of the field, and Polley shot the ball into the right corner of the net. Jared Martinelli scored his first goal of the season with six minutes left in regulation off a deflection over the center of the goalkeeper. Polley registered an assist on the goal.
The Owls didn't allow a single shot on goal in the two overtime periods but couldn't convert any chances of their own. Temple had three shots in the first overtime and two in the second while La Salle had only one shot in both overtime periods.
Scheck made five saves in the game for the Owls.
Temple ends its four game road trip next Wednesday at Fordham at 4:00 p.m. The Owls defeated the Rams last season on Sept. 25 behind Matt Mahoney's first collegiate goal.
