Terriers Open NEC Play With 2-0 Win Over SHU
Fairfield, CT - - -Senior forward Yussuf Olajide's goal in the 29th minute gave St. Francis Brooklyn all of the scoring that they would need as the Terriers blanked the Sacred Heart Pioneers, 2-0, in the Northeast Conference season opener for both squads on Friday afternoon. The Terriers improved to 5-4-2 (1-0 NEC) while the Pioneers dropped to 2-6-2 (0-1 NEC).
Olajide's team-leading fourth goal of the season came off a corner-kick by senior defender Collyns Laokandi. Olajide, who recorded a game-high four shots, chipped one in from the right side to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.
The Red & Blue added an insurance tally with 6:08 remaining in the contest as junior midfielder Dominick Falanga took a dribble and sent a blast from 15 yards out. The goal, which was unassisted, was Falanga's second of the season.
St. Francis Brooklyn dominated the action, outshooting the Pioneers by a 16-6 margin. The visitors also attempted seven corners and did not allow the hosts one single corner opportunity.
Terriers' junior goalkeeper Roberto Bazzichetto was asked to make just one save in 62:46 of action. Senior Seth Erdman played the final 27 minutes and did not make a save.
St. Francis Brooklyn will host FDU on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
