Tulsa Captures 3-1 Win Over Lipscomb
Three different Tulsa men’s soccer players scored a goal to give the Golden Hurricane a 3-1 win over Lipscomb on Monday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane moved to 2-0 on the season, while the Bisons fell to 0-2 overall.
“I thought we created some good chances today and it was good to see we had 21 shots,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. “I thought the back line was pretty solid for most of the night. They didn’t give up too much and they passed it well, but we gave a ball away in a bad area, didn’t react well to it and gave up the goal.”
Thomas Wells put Tulsa on the board as he picked up a through ball from Charles Noyelle and then went one-on-one with Bison keeper Alex Brown to score from 10 yards out at the 24:21 mark. Jonathan Cervantes made it a two-goal cushion with his goal just 46-seconds later on a rebound attempt from Harris Partain.
TU maintained that 2-0 lead for the next 52 minutes off the clock, but Malik Shaheed scored from 18 yards out off a long ball from Daniel Muhlbauer. Tulsa got one back just under six minutes later as Mitchell Cashion scored from 20 yards out off a forward pass from Rooks Hunter for the final score.
Wells had a team-best seven shots, three of which were on goal, while Cashion added four attempts and Cervantes had three shots. Bryson Reed picked up four saves as he played all 90 minutes in goal.
Tulsa had a 21-9 lead in shots, including a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal, and an 11-7 lead in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, September 6 at eighth-ranked Kentucky. Game time is set for 6:30 pm in Lexington, Ky.
