Tulsa Captures 6-2 Win Over Oral Roberts
Cameron Drackett punched in two goals while four other Tulsa men’s soccer players tallied a goal to give the Golden Hurricane a 6-2 win over crosstown rival Oral Roberts on Thursday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 2-2-1 on the season, while ORU fell to 1-2-1 overall.
“We started out a little flat, I think we were still a little fatigued from last weekend, but we got our first goal off a set piece and then Bradley’s goal on a set piece, so we took advantage of those moments,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. “It was good to score goals. We’ve been a little bit unlucky in some of our games by hitting crossbars and posts, but tonight we were able to score six and created a couple of other good chances.”
Drackett put Tulsa on the board at the 17:46 mark off a pass from Kay Duit, but ORU evened the score in the 33rd minute. Bradley Bourgeois put TU up once again just under five minutes later as he headed in a score from three yards out on the left side. Drackett gave the Hurricane a two-goal cushion heading into the break as he one-time the ball into the back of the net for his second goal in the 42nd minute.
In the second frame, Juan Sanchez scored his first collegiate goal off a pass from Zach Jackson in the 68th minute and then Saari drilled in a penalty kick at the 72:46 mark. Aymar Sigue scored on a combination from Jacob Gooden and Sanchez in the 81st minute, but ORU’s Colton Haskin tallied the last goal also in the 81st minute.
Tulsa had a 15-11 lead in shots, including an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal, while ORU had a 7-5 lead in corner kicks.
Drackett had a team-best five shots, while Bourgeois, Saari and Sigue each had two attempts. Jake McGuire logged 80:28 between the posts and Brandon Hanat played the final 9:32 in goal. The duo each had two saves and one goal-against.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, September 13 against Portland. Game time is set for 1:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
