Tulsa Drops 2-1 Decision to Brown
Tulsa’s #20-ranked men’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Brown on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 2-2-1 on the season, while Brown moved to 4-0 overall.
“I thought Brown did a good job of shutting our attack down at times, we didn’t connect well through the middle and then we made two costly errors that gave them the lead,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. “It wasn’t a team we wanted to play from behind. We are going to make mistakes, but we have to be stronger mentally to overcome it. We got the goal back to play on even terms, but got down again, which made for a tough night. We have to be more consistent in our performances, but our guys worked hard.”
Nico Lozada chipped the ball over Marcel Da Silva’s head and punched in a score from one yard out to put the Bears on the board at the 14:38 mark. Jacob Gooden then evened the score in the 24th minute as he one-timed the ball into the back of the net from eight yards out off a pass from Rollie Rocha.
Toby Howell scored the game-winner in the 32nd minute as he shot from 10 yards out into an open net off a forward pass from Lozada.
Tulsa had a 14-8 lead in shots, while both teams had six shots on goal, and TU had an 8-2 lead in corner kicks.
Joe Ruiz and Miguel Velasquez both had a team-best two shots, while 10 others had one attempt. Da Silva logged all 90 minutes in goal for the Golden Hurricane and picked up four saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 19 against #22 Creighton. Game time is set for 7:00 pm in Omaha, Neb.
