Tulsa Drops 3-1 Decision to Temple
The Tulsa men’s soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Temple on Saturday evening at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane fell to 4-7-1 on the season and 1-4 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Owls moved to 8-6-1 overall and 3-2 in the league.
“We started the game very well and scored a great goal,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. “Then we conceded a soft goal, which leveled the score. In the second half we controlled the game, but gave one away as we were pushing forward. We had three really good chances in the second half that need to be goals so we have to do a better job inside the box. I am proud of our guys, proud of the overall performance and proud that they fought until the final whistle.”
With just 1:20 ticked off the clock Miguel Velasquez put Tulsa on the board as he punched in a cross from Rollie Rocha from 12 yards out. This was Velasquez’ third goal on the season.
Nearly nine minutes later Hermann Doerner got the equalizer as he drilled in a cross from 10 yards out, and then in the 20th minute Alan Camacho Soto gave the Owls the go-ahead goal. Thibault Candia scored on a penalty kick in the 85th minute for the final score.
Tulsa had a 19-8 lead in shots, including an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal, and a 6-3 lead in corner kicks.
Velasquez had a team-best six shots, four of which were on goal, while Zack Stavrou and Cameron Drackett each had three attempts. Marcel Da Silva logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up three saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Tuesday, October 24 against Saint Louis. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
