Tulsa Edges Gonzaga, 1-0
Charles Noyelle scored his first collegiate goal to give Tulsa a 1-0 win over Gonzaga on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane moved to 1-0 on the season, while the Bulldogs fell to 0-1 overall.
“I thought we started the game well, moved the ball quite well and created some early chances,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. “Later on in the first half we weren’t able to connect as well as we normally can and they pressed us. In the second half, we had to make some changes so we didn’t have the consistency in our lineup that we would have liked. I am really happy with the last 15 minutes or so because we defended quite well and they couldn’t create any really good chance at the end of the game. Our guys were smart and managed the last 15 minutes well.”
Noyelle’s goal came in the 14thminute as he scored off an assist from Adam Habib.
Thomas Wells had a team-best three shots, while Noyelle added two attempts and five others had one shot. Bryson Reed played all 90 minutes in goal and picked up six saves for the shutout.
Gonzaga had a 12-10 lead in shots, including a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal, while Tulsa had a 7-4 lead in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Monday, September 2 against Lipscomb. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
