Tulsa Men Drop 1-0 Decision to UConn
The Tulsa men’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to UConn on Saturday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 5-3-2 on the season and 1-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Huskies moved to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the league.
“It was a tough night in terms of our finishing,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. “We moved the ball okay in the first half, but we just didn’t create enough chances in the first half. Overall we moved the ball pretty well and for the most part stopped what they were trying to do. In the second half we picked up the pace and created a number of good chances, and outshot them 11-1. It was unfortunate that we got that one called back, but overall I was pleased with how we played.”
Andrew Geres put the Huskies on the board at the 30:44 mark as he drilled in a rebound attempt that was taken by Abdou Thiam that bounced off the post.
With just under six minutes to play, Tulsa was awarded a penalty kick, but the first attempt by Rollie Rocha, although it went in, was disallowed. His second attempt was stopped by UConn’s goalie Scott Levene.
Tulsa had a 13-6 lead in shots, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal, and a 7-2 lead in corner kicks.
Rocha had a team-best four shots, including two on goal, while Lesley Nchanji added three attempts and Vincent Pedace had two shots. Jake McGuire logged all 90 minutes between the posts and picked up one save.
Tulsa will return to action on Thursday, October 6 against USF. Game time is set for 6:00 pm Central in Tampa, Fla.
