Tulsa Men’s Soccer Team Falls to SMU, 1-0
The Tulsa men’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to SMU on Saturday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 4-4-1 on the season and 0-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Mustangs moved 5-2-2 overall and 1-0 in the league.
“I thought we did a good job coming out in the second half and put them under a lot more pressure,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. “We created enough chances in the second half, but just couldn’t get one to go on goal. It is a lesson to be learned and move on for the next one. We didn’t play well to start the game, we were very flat, second to every ball and didn’t compete physically in the first half.”
SMU’s Brenden Lee scored an early goal, which ended up being the game-winner, as he drilled in a shot from 12 yards out on the right side. Jared Rice picked up the assist.
Tulsa had a 15-13 lead in shots, while the Mustangs had a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal, and TU had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Ray Saari and Juan Sanchez each had three shots, while Lesley Nchanji added two attempts. Jake McGuire logged all 90 minutes between the posts and picked up four saves, while Bradley Bourgeois stepped in front of the goal and had two saves that were registered as team saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, October 3 against Cincinnati. Game time is set for 6:00 pm Central in Cincinnati, Ohio.
