Utah Valley stays perfect, tops Bradley
PEORIA, Ill. – No. 16 Utah Valley University stayed perfect with a 1-0 win at Bradley University in the final match of the the Hotels at Grand Prairie Classic. Skyler Milne scored his third goal of the weekend for the game-winner.
Milne was named the Tournament MVP after also scoring twice in Friday’s 4-2 win over Evansville. Paul Hoffmeister, who also had a brace in the weekend’s first game, joined Milne, Connor Salmon, and Elliott Rubio on the All-Tournament Team.
"Bradley is a very difficult opponent and we knew it would take a complete performance to garner a result at Shea Stadium," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "The staff couldn't be more proud of this team and our collective performance, and Skyler's 3rd goal of the weekend was simply world-class."
Milne’s goal came in the 26th minute when Salmon found him and he was able to get behind the defense. Milne dribbled into the box and fired across his body from the right side of the box into the left-side netting.
The Wolverines had a staunch defensive effort and allowed just five shots with only one on goal from the Braves (1-2-1). Rubio had one save in picking up his first career shutout – also UVU’s first of the season.
Utah Valley returns to Illinois next week, in DeKalb, where the Wolverines will face Loyola Chicago and Northern Illinois at the NIU Adidas Invitational. Next week’s trip concludes a string of four straight away from home. Utah Valley returns to Clyde Field on Thursday, Sept. 15 against Gonzaga in a 5 p.m. MT start.
