Warhawk Men Shutout Webster
A pair of goals in the first half, another in the second and three saves by Toney Anderson (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) helped the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Webster University Saturday evening in Whitewater.
The Warhawks last home match was a 3-0 victory over Olivet College on September 6. UW-W has played their five most recent games on the road.
It did not take the Warhawks long to get on the scoreboard. Henry Raymonds (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) played a ball into the box in the ninth minute of play and Kevin Mesich (West Allis, Wis./West Allis Hale) headed it in for his third goal of the year.
Webster responded with a shot on goal a minute and a half later but Warhawk goalkeeper Toney Anderson(Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) was in the right place to make the save. Anderson was tested again in the 21st minute, but stopped the Gorlocks' leading scorer, Dino Music, from evening the score.
A foul on the Gorlocks in the 35th minute resulted in a penalty kick opportunity for UW-W. Peter Raymonds(Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) was elected to take the kick, and he capitalized for a 2-0 lead.
The score remained the same until the 80th minute when Lucas Monterroso (Montevideo, Uruguay/Colegio Jesus Maria) scored his first goal of the season on a pass from Jamie Wunrow (Franklin, Wis./Whitnall) to make it 3-0.
The Warhawks tallied eight shots in each half to outshoot Webster 16-7.
UW-W, 4-3-2, will have little time off as they will host Westminster (Mo.) at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fiskum Field.
