Warhawks Come From Behind for Tenth Victory
The UW-Whitewater women's soccer team came from behind to defeat Illinois Wesleyan 3-2 Wednesday at Fiskum Field in Whitewater. The victory was the third time this season UW-W has come from behind to win. The Warhawks improve to 10-4-0 and the Titans fall to 6-6-0.
Titans' forward Tess Bottorff connected on a diving header off of a cross from Hannah Ketterling in the nineteenth minute to give Illinois Wesleyan a 1-0 lead. That lead stood until halftime.
Sarah Sedlar (Racine/Case) found the back of the net with the equalizer in the 50th minute when she capitalized on a ball that bounced around off of several players in the box after a corner kick by Kelsey Finn (Glendale/Nicolet).
UW-W took the lead just two minutes and six seconds later when Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls/Menomonee Falls) hammered home her sixth goal of the season. Woodson punched in a ball that rebounded off of the right post on a shot by Natalie Lechner (Waukesha/Catholic Memorial).
Lechner followed 17 minutes later with a strike with her left foot that found the lower left corner of the goal to give the Warhawks a 3-1 lead. Woodson assisted on the goal.
The Titans pulled to within one with just under two minutes remaining when Sydney Fox scored her first goal of the season, but there was no magic left for IWU as the Warhawks held on to win.
Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) earned her tenth win as goalkeeper this season making four saves in the game.
UW-W has won three games in a row and nine of their last ten.
The women's team will return to the pitch on October 13 for a match against the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota at 1:00 pm.
