Warhawks Make it Eight in a Row
Brianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) continues to punish opposing teams. Reid scored two more goals in a 4-0 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team win over Marian University Monday night in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Reid's season total is now 16, tied for the third most in a single season in school history, and there's still four games to go. The Warhawks, ranked 16th in the country, improve to 12-2 with their eighth consecutive win.
Start strong, finish stronger … that's what the Warhawks did Monday night. Carina Krausert (Delafield, Wis./Catholic Memorial) found Reid for a header goal in the sixth minute of play and a 1-0 Warhawk lead. This is the fifth time in the last six games that the Warhawks have scored a goal in the first fifteen minutes of play.
The Sabres stifled the Warhawks as the half went on, allowing just six first half shots. Not to be outdone, The Warhawk defense held Marian to just two shots in the first period.
Finish stronger … twelve minutes into the second half Morgan Beaty (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) notched her team-leading sixth assist of the season when Marie Lesperance (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South)buried a shot in the back of the net.
Four minutes later Reid made it 3-0, scoring on a pass from Lesperance.
Twelve minutes after that, freshman forward Karina Rosales (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) scored on a pass fromKara Jahn (Oregon, Wis./Oregon), and just like that it was 4-0.
On the other half of the field there was not a whole lot going on. The Warhawk defense held Marian to zero shots in the second half. This is the third time this season, and second in a row, that the UW-W defense limited their opponent to one shot on goal. That makes for an easy night for the goalkeeper, or in this case, goalkeepers. Erin Doody (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) earned the win, making one save in 73:16. Elly Diderrich (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) finished the match, but was never tested.
The Warhawks will return home for a match against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent UW-Platteville on Wednesday at 7 pm. UW-La Crosse will then be in town on Saturday for the Warhawks' final home game of the season. The match, slated as senior day, will begin at 5 pm.
