Weekly Preview: Sept. 10 - Sept. 16
The Mount Union women's soccer team capped off a perfect weekend by dropping Oberlin, 3-0, on Saturday night. They now get set to kick off a four-game homestand starting on Sept. 12 and concluding Sept. 22.
Eight different players have scored a goal for the Purple Raiders this season, but freshman Shannon Evans (Newbury/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin), who scored in Friday's victory over Hiram, currently holds the team and Ohio Athletic Conference lead with four. She is the only player with more than one goal for Mount Union.
In Saturday's win over Oberlin, Kylee Kolesar (Mentor/Mentor), Gina Wall(Warren/Howland) and Kolbie Haines (Hudson/Hudson) each scored their first goals of the season in the shutout win over Oberlin. It was the first time in 2012 that Mount Union shut out an opponent and they are currently outscoring the opposition 11-6.
On Wednesday (Sept. 12), the Raiders (3-1) will face Penn State-Behrend (0-4) at Mount Union Stadium for its 6 p.m. home opener. PSU-Behrend beat Mount Union last September, 2-0, at the Clarion Classic in Fredonia, N.Y. The Lions are 0-2 against OAC teams this season, losing to Otterbein and Baldwin Wallace to start the year.
After Wednesday night's game, the Raiders will not have a match until next Monday (Sept. 17) against Grove City (Pa.). They play three home matches next week, starting with the Grove City contest.
