Wildcat Men Blank Chestnut Hill, 3-0
The Wildcats of Wilmington University blanked the host Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men’s soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Victory Field #1.
It didn’t take long for the Wildcats to strike as sophomore Jose Hernandez finished a pass from junior Ray Kuemmer just four minutes into the game. Kuemmer struck again during the 29th minute, as he netted an unassisted tally. Wilmington made it 3-0 at the 34:52 mark when sophomore Eddie Kowalo knocked home a rebound from a Manny Payton shot.
Freshman goalkeeper Spyros Stergiotis recorded four saves before giving way to senior Russell Dobos, who made one stop. The two combined on the Wildcats’ second shutout of the season. Mike Goldstein had five saves in defeat, before turning the rains over to Dave Sullivan (one save) for the final 11 minutes. Wilmington held a 20-13 advantage in shots, and the ‘Cats also had a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 2-1 in the CACC and 2-3-2 overall, while Chestnut Hill dropped to 2-1 in the conference and 3-3-1 on the season. The Wildcats return to the pitch on Sunday afternoon, when they host the 20th ranked Marauders of Millersville University in a non-conference tilt beginning at 2:00 PM.
