Wolves Beat Clan
Monmouth, OR – The Simon Fraser University women's soccer team finished up their first road trip of the 2012 season with a loss on Saturday afternoon to the Western Oregon Wolves, 4-1.
Three first half goals by the Wolves put the Clan in a hole they could not fight their way out of.
Amanda Gilliland (Delta, BC) got the start in goal for SFU, making two saves on the afternoon.
The game was a tight, defensive battle for the first 19 minutes before, in the 20th minute, Marina Austin scored the first goal of the game to make it 1-0 WOU.
Gilliland blocked the first two shots before Austin put the rebound into the top right of the goal to give the Wolves the lead.
The Wolves expanded their lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute when Jo Ellen DeLeon took a cross from Lindsay Bauman and put it into the top right of the net.
The Wolves added one more before halftime and a fourth goal in the 70th minute by Maya Palaroan.
Freshman Olivia Aguiar (Coquitlam, BC) got the Clan on the board in the 85th minute with the first goal of her collegiate career.
Aguiar's shot came from the left side and went into the open net but that was all the offence the Clan could muster in the game as SFU fell 4-1.
With the loss, SFU's record falls to 1-4 on the season, 0-2 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The Clan will be on the road again next week, starting with a trip the Central Washington to take on the Wildcats on Thursday, September 20 at 4:00 p.m.
