Woodson's Hat Trick Leads Warhawks
Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls/Menomonee Falls) recorded a hat trick to lead UW-Whitewater to a 4-0 win over UW-Stevens Point Saturday at Fiskum Field in Whitewater. The win clinches the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title outright for UW-W, their third title in a row. The Warhawks are now 12-4-1 overall and 7-0-0 in league play. The Pointers fall to 11-4-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the WIAC.
Woodson recorded the first goal of the game, and the only one in the first half, at the 14:38 mark off of a pass from Sarah Sedlar(Racine/Case).
Kelsey Finn (Glendale/Nicolet) found Woodson just under two minutes into the second half to give the Warhawks a 2-0 advantage. The assist is the second of the season for Finn.
Sedlar made it 3-0 knocking in a pass from Chrissy Tooren (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates) eight minutes into the second half. Sedlar has now scored in five straight games for UW-W and six of the last seven.
Tooren notched her second assist of the game when she found Woodson to complete the hat trick at 60:26 to make it 4-0. The last player to record a hat trick for UW-W was Tooren back on October 16, 2011 in a 5-1 victory over UW-Superior.
Stevens Point pressured the Warhawks throughout the game outshooting them 23-16. Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) played the first 64 minutes in goal for UW-W and made two saves. Emily Haeger (Rolling Meadows, IL/Rolling Meadows) came on to play the remaining 26 minutes and notched four saves.
The lopsided victory allowed first year head coach Ryan Quamme to play 25 different players in the match.
UW-W will close out regular season play with their final conference match against UW-River Falls on October 27 in a match beginning at 5:00 pm at Fiskum Field in Whitewater.
The Warhawks have earned the number one seed in the WIAC tournament which begins on October 30. UW-W earned a first round bye and will not play until November 1 when they host the lowest remaining seed in a game at 6:00 pm at Fiskum Field.
