Coaches named for High School A-A game
Twelve high school soccer coaches with more than 3,500 wins and 45 state or section titles have been selected to coach in the High School All-American boys and girls soccer games, schedued for Dec. 5 at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, N.C.
The girls soccer list includes a pair of repeat All-American game coaches, Tara Madigan of Northern Highlands (Allendale, N.J.) and Deb LaPrath of Maria Carrillo (Santa Rosa, Calif.). Interestingly, their teams squared off early this high school season with Northern Highlands beating Maria Carrillo and taking over the SIMA FAB 50 No. 1 ranking from Maria Carrillo.
LaPrath will be joined by league rival coaches Don Braman of Skyline (Sammamish, Wash.) and Tom Bunnell of Issaquah (Issaquah, Wash.) to guide the West squad in the third annual event.
Madigan is part of the East staff that includes Jack Nogueira of St. Joseph (Trumbull, Conn.) and David Wolff of [Germantown Houston tn-w] (Germantown, Tenn.).
In the latest SIMA FAB 50 girls soccer rankings, Northern Highlands is ranked No. 1, Germantown Houston at No. 10, St. Joseph at No. 13, Maria Carrillo at No. 16 and Issaquah at No. 22.
Paul Rose of Jesuit (Carmichael, Calif.) highlights a succesful group of boys soccer coaches for the fifth annual boys game. Rose has more than 700 high shool wins and 12 section titles. He will be joined on the West coaching staff by John Conlon of East Kentwood (Kentwood, Mich.) and Greg Koeller of St. Dominic (O'Fallon, Mo.).
The East coaches are Owen Finberg of South Kent School (South Kent, Conn.), Tim Healy of Cardinal Gibbons (Raleigh, NC.) and Michael Wiggins of Hinsdale Central (Hinsdale, Ill.). Finberg's South Kent team is ranked No. 3 in the latest TopDrawerSoccer Prep Top 10. Wiggins, who went over the 300-win mark early this season, coaches a Hinsdale Central team that is currently ranked No. 16 in the SIMA FAB 50 boys soccer rankings.
