HS Player of the Week hits Mass. and Pa.
Justin Donawa, a junior forward from Berkshire School (Sheffield, Mass.), and Kayla Smith, a senior midfielder from Upper Perkiomen High School (Red Hill, Pa.), are the NSCAA/TopDrawerSoccer.com High School Players of the Week.
Donawa poured in seven goals and tallied three assists for Berkshire last week to guide the program to three wins. The Bermuda U17 National Team member, who doubles as a track and field standout, burned up the wings and tallied game-winning goals in each of Berkshire's three games last week. Berkshire is 6-0-1 this season thanks largely to Donawa, who's scored game-winning goals now in four of the team's six wins.
Smith, an Indiana commit, led her AA program to three wins over bigger AAA programs for the first time in league history last week. The midfielder scored both goals in a 2-1 win over regional juggernaut Owen J. Roberts, provided the assist for the insurance goal in a 2-0 win over Methacton and then went off in a wild finale against Perkiomen Valley. With Upper Perkiomen trailing 2-0 at half, Smith scored twice in the second half to tie the game and then scored the winner in the second overtime to complete the hat trick and a wildly prolific week.
Other boys finalists include Neal Iannone of Gaithersburg High School (Gaithersburg, Md.), Chandler Klemm of Parkway West High School (Ballwin, Mo.) and A.J. Santori of Bartlett High School (Bartlett, Ill.). Other girls finalists include Caitlin Harty of Beverly High School (Beverly, Mass.), Claire Stackel of Copenhagen High School (Copenhagen, N.Y.) and Jackie White of Hickory High School (Hermitage, Pa.).
