HS: Fall FAB 50 rankings, Aug, 21
It didn't take long for a shakeup in the Indiana girls rankings.
Preseason favorite Carmel (Ind.) was held to a scoreless tie in its season debut. Last year's FAB 50 national champion Penn (Ind.) suffered its first loss in three seasons, ending an undefeated run at 50 matches. In addition, always-strong Brebeuf Jesuit (Ind.) lost its first two matches, and Evansville Memorial (Ind.) lost to Penn.
The shakeup leaves Brownsburg (Ind.) atop the state rankings and among the fall season's elite for now. Carmel settles in at No. 2 in Indiana.
There were no changes in the boys FAB 50 as the few teams that have played are a combined 10-0 through Aug. 19.
BIG MOVERS: BOYS: None. ... GIRLS: St. John's (Washington, D.C.). No team moved up more than one position, but for St. John's, which has yet to play, its move from No. 3 to No. 2 puts it on the doorstep of a FAB 50 No. 1 ranking. No D.C. team has ever held a FAB 50 No. 1 in the 20-year history of the rankings.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: None. ... GIRLS: No. 10 Brownsburg (Ind.), No. 33 Sacred Heart Academy (Louisville, Ky.), No. 36 DuPont Manual (Louisville, Ky.) and Maple Grove (Minn.).
