HS: Spring SIMA FAB 50, May 26
TOP STORY: Tournament time is full of surprises -- usually.
That certainly wasn't the case for the Top 25 teams in last week's girls soccer spring rankings. The 21 teams still active in last week's girls Top 25 went a combined 38-1 last week, resulting in almost no change to the Top 25. The lone loss was by Waubonsie Valley (Aurora, Ill.), causing the perennial power to fall from the SIMA FAB 50 and allow Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) to move into the Top 25 from the No. 26 spot it held last week.
On the boys side, there was more movement in the Top 25, although many of the names remain the same. [Germantown Houston tn-m] (Germantown, Tenn.) vaulted from No. 20 to No. 5 after avenging its only defeat en route to a Tennessee Class AAA state title. Considering teams ranked No. 3 and 4 have yet to start regional postseason play, it is possible for Houston to inch as high as No. 3 by the final ranking.
BIG MOVERS: BOYS: Central Valley (Spokane Valey, Wash.), powered by an undefeated record heading into this week's state semifinals, vaults from No. 38 to No. 20, the largest move among the ranked teams this week. GIRLS: No team moved more than three spots in this week's rankings.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 40 Forest Park (Woodbridge, Va.), No. 42 Inglemoor (Kenmore, Wash.), No. 45 Wenatchee (Wenatchee, Wash.), No. 46 Mills Godwin (Richmond, Va.), No. 47 Deep Run (Glen Allen, Va.), No. 48 [A. C. Flora sc-m] (Columbia, S.C.), No. 49 Blacksburg (Blacksburg, Va.) and No. 50 Bob Jones (Madison, Ala.). GIRLS: No. 48 Cuthbertson (Waxhaw, N.C.), No. 49 Millard West (Omaha, Neb.) and No. 50 Waukesha West (Waukesha, Wis.).
