HS: Spring, Winter SIMA FAB 50, March 10
Just a couple of weeks into the spring high school season and Georgia boys programs are putting on quite a display.
Consider:
* Greater Atlanta Christian (Norcross, Ga.), which is no longer ranked after a loss to an unranked opponent last week, has a 5-0 win over the top-ranked boys team in Alabama.
* [St. Pius ga-m] (Atlanta, Ga.) pinned a 4-0 defeat on perennial South Carolina small school state title favorite St. Joseph's (Greenville, S.C.).
* Greenbrier (Evans, Ga.) won the Regions Border Bash, which included opponents from four spring-playing state associations.
It all adds up to Georgia putting 14 teams in this week's SIMA FAB 50 spring boys soccer rankings, and a few more teams are inching closer to the rankings. Brookwood remains No. 3 in the SIMA FAB 50 while St. Pius moves up to No. 4 -- and both teams are in prime position to make a serious run at No. 1.
With most spring girls teams yet to play, there was little movement in the SIMA FAB 50 girls spring rankings.
Meanwhile, the winter rankings are gearing up for the stretch run. This week marks the final week for California, and Texas is a mere two weeks away from starting its postseason.
Overall, there was no change in any of the No. 1 spots with Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) boys and Coppell (Coppell, Texas) girls holding the top spots in the winter. Wando (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) boys and Harrison (Kennesaw, Ga.) girls retaining the No. 1 positions in the spring.
