HS: State, region rankings, April 17
There was no disappointing end to this season for the girls at Highland Park (Texas).
After finishing as back-to-back Class 6A runners-up, Highland Park returned to Class 5A this season and completed a perfect run to a state title, which leads to final No. 1 rankings in the state, region and SIMA FAB 50 rankings for winter girls soccer.
[Jesuit College Prep tx-m] (Texas) made it a DFW sweep of the state No. 1s, winning the Class 6A boys title in an all-MetroPlex final to earn the boys state and region No. 1 rankings.
AROUND THE NATION: The boys soccer megaclash with SIMA FAB 50 No. 3 McCallie School (Tenn.) and No. 6 Father Ryan (Tenn.) ended in a 1-1 draw. The teams will retain their previous 1-2 order, and could get another chance to settle the issue in May -- during the state playoffs. ... Wando (S.C.) took a major step toward a SIMA FAB 50 boys national title by winning the Palmetto Cup this past weekend, which included a 3-1 win over previously undefeated and nationally ranked Cardinal Newman (S.C.). Wando is now 17-0. ... Naperville North (Ill.) edged Barrington (Ill.) 1-0 in a state No. 1-2 and SIMA FAB 50 No. 1 vs. 3 matchup in the final of the North Shore Invitational girls tournament. ... Waukee (Iowa) moves to the top of the Iowa girls rankings following a win over former No. 1 Ankeny Centennial (Iowa) in a state No. 1-2 meeting. ... Millard West (Neb.) returns to the girls state No. 1 ranking, which it held in the preseason, by avenging its only loss with a victory over Omaha Marian (Neb.).
