HS: State, region rankings, April 2
A couple Texas favorites got pushed to the brink in what was an otherwise quiet week for high school soccer.
While the Texas high school playoffs got under way last week, most of the spring-playing teams were on either Spring or Easter break.
Starting in Texas, McKinney Boyd boys and Allen girls -- both ranked in the FAB 50 Top 10 -- were pushed to shootouts before emerging with victories to advance to the second round of postseason play. Most of the other Texas favorites comfortably won their openers.
There was only one state and region No. 1 change in the spring boys and girls rankings, and that outcome was quite noteworthy. Omaha Westside (Neb.) entered the 2017 Class A state final rematch with Creighton Prep (Neb.) as the state's No. 2-ranked team, but came away with a 4-0 victory. According to the Omaha World-Herald, the result was the most lopsided loss suffered by Creighton Prep since 2008.
