HS: Winter season starts to wind down
Just as high school soccer play in Texas gets started, Florida, Hawaii and Mississippi are about to wrap up.
The Florida boys regular season ended Saturday. Hawaii boys and girls are easing into conference tournament play. Mississippi boys and girls start state playoffs this week.
Montverde Academy (Fla.) boys secured the Forida-North No. 1 ranking with a 3-2 win over No. 2 Tampa Jesuit (Fla.). [Nothwest Rankin ms-m] (Miss.) finished an undefeated regular season and Punahou (Hawaii) can do the same this week. On the girls side, Chaparral (Ariz.) returns to No. 1 in both the Arizona state and West region rankings this week. Gulfport (Miss.) ended regular season play with an undefeated record and heads into the 6A state playoffs as the favorite.
The state No. 1s are Sunnyside (Ariz.), Montgomery (Calif.), Doral Academy (Fla.), Punahou (Hawaii), St. Paul's (La.), Northwest Rankin (Miss.) and San Antonio LEE (Texas) for boys and Chaparral (Ariz.), Monte Vista (Calif.), Montverde Academy (Fla.), Kamehameha-Kapalama (Hawaii), Northshore (La.), Gulfport (Miss.) and Coppell (Texas) for girls.
