HS: Winter SIMA FAB 50 rankings, Feb. 10
The staggered start to the winter season also means a staggered finish.
Mississippi boys and girls and Florida girls are finished after crowning state champions this past weekend. Meanwhile, the Texas winter teams have yet to complete their first rotation through league play.
So what does it mean?
From a rankings standpoint, although Florida girls and Mississippi are finished, that doesn't mean those teams' final SIMA FAB 50 ranking is anywhere near complete. As the rest of the winter-playing states close out their seasons, look for the ranked Florida and Mississippi teams to continue to inch higher in future weeks as current high-ranked teams take losses.
St. Thomas Aquinas (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) checks in at No. 8 in the SIMA FAB 50 for girls soccer, but the Raiders are likely to finish closer to the Top 5 when all is finished. American Heritage-Plantation (Plantation, Fla.), currently just outside the girls Top 10, should close the gap on St. Thomas Aquinas and also finish several spots higher.
Around the country, there was not much change among the SIMA FAB 50 title contenders. In fact, the only change among the boys Top 10 was last week's No. 9 and 10 teams flipped spots. On the girls side, the biggest moves were Keller (Keller, Texas) and Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.) moving into the Top 5.
